The Rosemary Myrick Memorial 5K Walk/Run and Kid’s Fun Run will begin at the Harrisville Harbor Park at 8:30 a.m. See www.rosies5k.org for information and registration. Breakfast is available to participants and community members. Organizers suggest purchasing tickets prior to the event. All proceeds to toward college scholarships to Alcona students and a donation to Ronald McDonald House of Mid Michigan.

The Kids 4th of July Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Line up begins at 12:30 p.m. at Third Street in Harrisville. All youth are welcome and encouraged to decorate themselves, their bicycles, wagons, pets, etc. for this patriotic event. The parade will travel down Main Street to the Harrisville Harbor for free refreshments and musical entertainment immediately following. The free youth concert is sponsored by the Harrisville Arts Council and Inspiration Alcona. (Rain date is Sunday, July 3.)

The Lions Duck Race begins at 4 p.m. at the Mill Pond on US-23 just north of the stop light in Harrisville. See Lions members to purchase race tickets.

Music at the Harbor, provided by Ryan Mendyka will begin at 6 p.m. and the annual Harrisville Fireworks will begin at dusk. (Rain date is Sunday, July 3.)

MONDAY, JULY 4

Barton City Improvement Association presents its annual Biggest Little Fourth in the North. Events begin with a parade at 11 a.m. through downtown Barton City. At the park there will be a beer tent, horseshoes, children’s games, barbecue dinner, beer tent, and of course, fireworks at dusk. Viewing is from the park or Jewell Lake. A variety of Independence Day events will begin in Glennie prior to and following the annual parade at 2 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Fifties.”

The Alcona County Baby Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Raphael Church, 2531 E. F-30, Mikado. Alcona County residents with newborns through age four are eligible and welcome. This is not an income-based program. There is free formula, diapers, toys and new and gently used clothes and shoes. Layettes are available in the eighth month.

The Harrisville Summer Concert Series features the Jameson Brothers -- an acoustic duo from mid-Michigan featuring Brian Carson (“Peacemaker,” “Smoke Scream,” “Raggedyann”) and Joe Sullivan (“Jedi Mind Trip,” “Scholkstar,” “An American Underdog”). Formed in 2016 TJB specializes in classic R&B hits with a stripped-down bare bones presentation. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Harrisville Harbor. Seating is on the lawn. Professional lumberjacks will show off their unique skills at the Laughs & Lures Great Lakes Timber Show. The show features a program filled with chainsaw carving, ax throwing, two-man crosscut sawing, log rolling and more.
